The Chesnee High School Eagle Battalion began operations in August 2009. Army retired LTC Gene Kilcawley and SFC Jose Salas were hired to manage the program as the two Army instructors. We are completeing our 5th year. The ceremony is a tradition in the US Army. The old commander passes the power to the highest ranking official in that area to the new commander. In the Eagle Battalion, the CSM (Command Sergeant Major) passes the unit flag, which represents the power, to the old battalion commander. This symbolizes the power is about to be relinquished. The old battalion commander passes it to the principal who is the highest ranking official. The principal gives the unit flag the new battalion commander, which represents giving the power to the new person. Then the new battalion commander gives the flag back to the CSM.
